Sohrai - Rimil | 100% Linen | Limited Edition
The Story
Rimil, the Santali word for cloud, lends its name to a composition rooted in the living world of Sohrai — where birds, animals and vegetation inhabit a shared pictorial landscape.
A peahen occupies the chest pocket, while across the upper back, a peacock and peahen, stag and doe, and vegetation come together within hand-painted borders. The imagery draws from the broader visual vocabulary of Sohrai, the wall-painting tradition of Jharkhand closely associated with the post-harvest Sohrai observance, cattle and the agrarian world.
Like a cloud passing over a landscape without belonging to a single element within it, Rimil becomes a quiet name for the world gathered beneath it. Here, the painted language traditionally carried by earthen walls is translated onto linen, while irregularities of line, proportion and brush movement remain evidence of the hand.
