Chamba Rumal – Rhino-Ed | 100% Khadi | Limited Edition
The Story
A stitched perimeter encloses the khadi surface, defining a contained rectangular field.
The outer edge is marked by evenly spaced red threadwork, maintaining a continuous boundary on all sides.
The embroidered cluster is offset within the field, leaving the majority of the surface unworked.
A mother rhinoceros is articulated through tightly layered stitches, forming the head, ear, torso, limbs, and tail with controlled thread placement. The mass of the body is built through dense stitching, with subtle tonal shifts across the surface.
In close proximity, a baby rhinoceros is positioned alongside her, aligned in the same direction. Its form is rendered through finer stitches, with a more compact structure and simplified detailing.
A leafy plant form appears ahead of the figures, while smaller plant clusters are distributed around them. Fine linear stitching beneath the forms establishes ground placement.
Each element is held apart through measured spacing, preserving clarity across the field.
Needlework follows Chamba Rumal visual language, expressed through fine hand-applied thread.
The piece is executed in Do-rukha technique, resulting in identical articulation on both sides without visible knotting.
Irregularities in stitch direction and density indicate manual execution.
The embroidery is carried out on khadi fabric.
