Sohrai - Jar | 100% Linen | Limited Edition
The Story
Jar, meaning root, returns to the world from which Sohrai draws its language.
Above, a peacock unfurls his plumage in a courtship display before a peahen, surrounded by flowering branches and foliage. Below, a stag and doe appear together amid vegetation, reflecting nature’s enduring role in growth and continuity. A solitary flower on the chest pocket completes the painted narrative.
Animals, birds and vegetation recur throughout the visual vocabulary of Sohrai — a painting tradition of Jharkhand historically worked by hand on the walls of homes and closely associated with the post-harvest Sohrai observance and cattle.
On Jar, this language moves from wall to linen. Every element is painted entirely by hand, retaining the irregularities of line, fill and brushwork that reveal the presence of its maker.
Rooted in Sohrai, Jar brings courtship, companionship and growth into a single painted landscape — carrying a language once painted on walls onto linen.
