The Story

A hand embroidered Kasuti pocket square executed on lightweight 100% Mulmul Khadi through the traditional Murgi embroidery technique of Karnataka. Burnt copper and dark espresso threadwork shape peacock and geometric motifs that travel across the border through grounded intervals of counted stitch repetition.

Hand-crocheted edging introduces a quieter boundary around the embroidered field, while gentle tonal fluctuation and subtle weave movement preserve the textile’s slow handmade character. The embroidery remains concentrated near the edge of the cloth, preserving openness across the remaining Mulmul Khadi surface.

About Kasuti Art Work

Kasuti is a counted-thread embroidery tradition associated with the regions of present-day Karnataka. The practice is recognised through geometric precision achieved by counting the warp and weft threads of the fabric rather than relying on printed guides or traced outlines. Motifs frequently draw upon architecture, flora, fauna and symbolic forms observed within everyday life.

Characterised by disciplined stitch structures and balanced compositions, Kasuti is distinguished by its emphasis on symmetry, counting accuracy and reversibility of execution. The tradition is particularly valued for the precision with which patterns are built directly through counted thread relationships, requiring careful planning and meticulous stitch placement.

The embroideries presented here are contemporary hand-embroidered works executed by artisan practitioners associated with the living tradition of Kasuti embroidery and adapted for garments and accessories developed by The House of Rule Zero. They are created as original works and should not be understood as historical reproductions, ceremonial objects or documentary recreations of traditional Kasuti textiles.

Colour Variations

Product imagery is captured under natural lighting conditions to represent the object as faithfully as possible. Variations in ambient light, photographic interpretation, device displays and screen settings may result in slight differences between the colour shown online and the actual product.

Hand-painted pigments and embroidery threads may also appear differently under changing light conditions owing to the nature of the materials and fibres used in their creation.

Handcrafted Variations

Each piece is individually hand embroidered and may contain subtle variations in stitch direction, thread tension, motif execution and surface texture. These characteristics arise through the embroidery process and form part of the individuality of the object. They should not be considered defects.

Certain images may be digitally rendered to illustrate styling, context, scale or garment presentation. While every effort is made to faithfully represent the artwork, construction and character of the object, minor differences in colour, texture, drape or appearance may exist between rendered imagery and the physical product.
