The Story

Biligiri is defined by the repetition of the Betel Box motif, carried by hand around the perimeter of the handkerchief. Two closely set lines of Kasuti embroidery in yellow and deep plum form the border, their small geometric units repeating across each side before turning at the corners.

The counted construction gives the border its measured rhythm while leaving the centre of the khadi uninterrupted. Seen closely, the individual stitches and subtle variations of handwork remain visible against the weave, recording the relationship between thread, cloth and the repeated motif.
