The Story

The surface shows small repeated flower forms arranged along a vertical vine structure. Each flower is formed through Aari chain stitch, creating a continuous line that defines petal edges rather than filled embroidery.

In Kashmiri Aari practice, floral elements are commonly constructed through uninterrupted hook-needle movement, allowing stems and blossoms to appear drawn across the cloth. The pattern follows a directional growth layout instead of scattered placement.

The embroidery is carried onto a linen shirt.

About Aari Art Work

Aari embroidery is a hooked-needle embroidery tradition widely practised across the Kashmir Valley. The technique employs a specialised hooked tool that enables continuous chain stitches to be formed across the fabric surface. Floral compositions, foliage, vines and ornamental motifs frequently appear within its visual language.

Distinguished by fluid line work and dense decorative surfaces, Aari embroidery allows complex patterns to be built through continuous stitched movement and repetition. The technique is recognised for its ability to create intricate ornamental compositions with remarkable precision and continuity of line.

The embroideries presented here are contemporary hand-embroidered works executed by artisan practitioners associated with the living tradition of Kashmiri Aari embroidery and adapted for garments developed by The House of Rule Zero. They are created as original works on garments and should not be understood as historical reproductions, ceremonial objects or documentary recreations of traditional Aari textiles.

Colour Variations

Product imagery is captured under natural lighting conditions to represent the object as faithfully as possible. Variations in ambient light, photographic interpretation, device displays and screen settings may result in slight differences between the colour shown online and the actual product.

Hand-painted pigments and embroidery threads may also appear differently under changing light conditions owing to the nature of the materials and fibres used in their creation.

Handcrafted Variations

Each piece is individually hand embroidered and may contain subtle variations in stitch direction, thread tension, motif execution and surface texture. These characteristics arise through the embroidery process and form part of the individuality of the object. They should not be considered defects.

Visual Representation

Certain images may be digitally rendered to illustrate styling, context, scale or garment presentation. While every effort is made to faithfully represent the artwork, construction and character of the object, minor differences in colour, texture, drape or appearance may exist between rendered imagery and the physical product.

Clients seeking further examination of the object may request additional photographs of the garment and its handcrafted details.
