The Story

Arc of Life presents a vertical botanical motif rendered in the visual language of Gond painting. Positioned along the front placket, the composition unfolds as a repeated branching form articulated through fine line work, layered colour bands, and patterned infill.

In Gond art, natural elements such as trees and foliage are frequently structured through repetition rather than perspective. Texture defines vitality. Lines and marks build surface movement instead of shadow. The motif here follows that discipline — flat, rhythmic, and deliberate.

The arrangement along the shirt’s centre creates a linear axis, allowing the hand-painted forms to function as both structure and ornament. Each segment retains the natural variation of brushwork, preserving the integrity of manual execution.

The artwork is painted directly by hand onto a linen shirt.

Arc of Life carries the formal vocabulary of Gond painting into contemporary wear while maintaining the clarity of its original mark-making tradition.

About Gond Art Work

Gond art emerges from the visual traditions of the Gond communities of central India, particularly across regions of present-day Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and adjoining areas. The practice is recognised through intricate line work, repeated patterns and the construction of forms through rhythmic marks that create movement and texture. Trees, birds, animals, water bodies and relationships within the natural environment frequently appear as subjects of observation.

The visual language is characterised by the use of patterned surfaces that build form through repetition rather than shading. Distinguished by its structured mark-making and organic compositions, Gond art creates visual rhythm through lines, dots and repeated motifs that animate the surface while maintaining a close relationship with the natural world.

The artworks presented here are contemporary hand-painted works executed by artisan practitioners associated with the living tradition of Gond art and adapted for garments developed by The House of Rule Zero. They are created as original works on garments and should not be understood as historical reproductions, ceremonial objects or documentary recreations of traditional Gond paintings.Gond art emerges from the visual traditions of the Gond communities of central India, particularly across regions of present-day Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and adjoining areas. Colour Variations

Product imagery is captured under natural lighting conditions to represent the object as faithfully as possible. Variations in ambient light, photographic interpretation, device displays and screen settings may result in slight differences between the colour shown online and the actual product.

Hand-painted pigments and embroidery threads may also appear differently under changing light conditions owing to the nature of the materials and fibres used in their creation.

Handcrafted Variations

Each piece is individually hand painted and may contain subtle variations in brushwork, line quality, paint density and motif execution. These characteristics arise through the movement of the artist’s hand and form part of the individuality of the object. They should not be considered defects.

Visual Representation

Certain images may be digitally rendered to illustrate styling, context, scale or garment presentation. While every effort is made to faithfully represent the artwork, construction and character of the object, minor differences in colour, texture, drape or appearance may exist between rendered imagery and the physical product.

Clients seeking further examination of the object may request additional photographs of the garment and its handcrafted details.
