Chamba Rumal – Monkey-Ing Around | 100% Khadi | Limited Edition
The Story
A rectangular textile surface is enclosed by a continuous stitched edge, formed through evenly spaced looped threads along all four sides.
The interior field remains largely open, with the embroidered composition positioned toward one corner.
A mother monkey is seated along a horizontal branch, her body defined through dense, directional stitching. The head, limbs, torso, and tail are articulated through controlled thread placement, with tonal variation marking specific features.
A baby monkey is held within her arms, its form constructed through finer stitches and a more compact structure. Both figures face each other, establishing a contained interaction within the composition.
The branch extends laterally beneath the figures, supported by additional stitched lines. Small plant forms emerge from the branch, rendered through compact green stitches.
The embroidered elements remain clearly separated from the surrounding field, maintaining visual clarity.
The embroidery is executed drawing from Chamba Rumal visual language, using fine hand-applied needlework.
The work follows the Do-rukha technique, with identical visual articulation on both sides and no visible knotting.
Subtle variation in stitch direction and density reflects manual execution.
The embroidery is carried out on khadi fabric.
