The Story

Incorporated as natural elements, ducks in this hand-embroidered Chamba Rumal hold a prominent place as emblems of affluence. Revered as symbols of prosperity and grace, this hand-embroidered keepsake carries forward a sacred narrative of royalty and cultural heritage.

About Chamba Rumal Art Work

Chamba Rumal is an embroidered textile tradition associated with the Chamba region of present-day Himachal Pradesh. Historically executed on handwoven cloth using double-sided embroidery techniques, the practice is recognised for its ability to produce nearly identical imagery on both sides of the fabric. Narrative scenes, floral compositions, animals and symbolic motifs frequently appear within its visual language.

The tradition combines drawing and embroidery, with the stitched surface functioning as a medium for detailed pictorial representation. Distinguished by its reversible execution and narrative richness, Chamba Rumal places equal emphasis on line, composition and stitch precision, allowing imagery to emerge through carefully controlled needlework.

The embroideries presented here are contemporary hand-embroidered works executed by artisan practitioners associated with the living tradition of Chamba Rumal embroidery and adapted for garments and accessories developed by The House of Rule Zero. They are created as original works and should not be understood as historical reproductions, ceremonial objects or documentary recreations of traditional Chamba Rumals.

Colour Variations

Product imagery is captured under natural lighting conditions to represent the object as faithfully as possible. Variations in ambient light, photographic interpretation, device displays and screen settings may result in slight differences between the colour shown online and the actual product.

Hand-painted pigments and embroidery threads may also appear differently under changing light conditions owing to the nature of the materials and fibres used in their creation.

Handcrafted Variations

Each piece is individually hand embroidered and may contain subtle variations in stitch direction, thread tension, motif execution and surface texture. These characteristics arise through the embroidery process and form part of the individuality of the object. They should not be considered defects.

Visual Representation

Certain images may be digitally rendered to illustrate styling, context, scale or garment presentation. While every effort is made to faithfully represent the artwork, construction and character of the object, minor differences in colour, texture, drape or appearance may exist between rendered imagery and the physical product.

Clients seeking further examination of the object may request additional photographs of the garment and its handcrafted details.
