Bihar Sujani - Yin-Yang | 100% Khadi | Limited Edition
The Story
A curved fish form is hand-embroidered near one corner of a rectangular surface, set against an otherwise uninterrupted field.
The motif is constructed through a continuous outline that defines the head, body, and tail in a single flowing contour. Within this boundary, the upper section is filled using closely placed running stitches, creating a dense, textured band that follows the curvature of the form.
A contrasting stitched segment marks the head region, separated through colour and stitch direction. The eye is indicated by a compact, filled circular stitch, while the mouth and lower contour are articulated through finer linear threads.
The body curves inward, forming a near-circular loop, with the tail tapering toward the inner edge of the form. Stitch density varies between the filled sections and the outlined perimeter, making the internal structure visibly legible.
The remaining surface is left unworked, allowing the embroidered form to occupy a defined corner without extension into the central field.
Along the edges, a continuous border is formed through parallel running stitches in alternating colours, tracing the full perimeter and establishing a clear boundary independent of the motif.
Differences in stitch direction, spacing, and colour segmentation define the relationship between outline, fill, and surface, emphasizing the hand-executed construction.
Executed in Sujani embroidery on handloom khadi.
