The Story

Jeev Pravah — the flow of life — traces life through companionship, movement and continuity.

A solitary deer marks the pocket, while the back expands into a larger painted landscape: a peacock and peahen alongside a stag and doe, surrounded by flowering vegetation and enclosed within rhythmic borders.

Rooted in Sohrai’s enduring relationship with the natural world, the composition brings animal, bird and plant life together rather than treating them as isolated forms. Their coexistence becomes the heart of Jeev Pravah — life sustained through relationship, renewal and continuation.

Painted entirely by hand on linen, variations in line, proportion, fill and brush movement remain visible as part of the work.

Jeev Pravah carries the living world of Sohrai onto linen — a continuum of life, moving from one generation to the next.

About Sohrai Art Work

Sohrai is an Indigenous mural-painting tradition associated with Jharkhand, particularly the Hazaribagh region and neighbouring centres of artistic practice. Traditionally created on the earthen walls of homes, Sohrai painting is closely connected with the harvest season, cattle and the relationship between human life and the natural world. The tradition is recognised for its rhythmic lines, layered forms and the use of natural earth and mineral pigments.

Animals, birds, trees, plants and geometric forms frequently appear within its visual language. Characterised by bold silhouettes, fluid movement and instinctive mark-making, Sohrai art reflects close observation of the living landscape and knowledge carried through generations of artisan practitioners.

The artworks presented here are contemporary hand-painted works executed by artisan practitioners associated with the living tradition of Sohrai art in Jharkhand and adapted for garments developed by The House of Rule Zero. They are created as original works on garments and should not be understood as historical reproductions, traditional ceremonial paintings or documentary recreations of Sohrai murals.

Colour Variations

Product imagery is captured under natural lighting conditions to represent the object as faithfully as possible. Variations in ambient light, photographic interpretation, device displays and screen settings may result in slight differences between the colour shown online and the actual product.

Hand-painted pigments and embroidery threads may also appear differently under changing light conditions owing to the nature of the materials and fibres used in their creation.

Handcrafted Variations

Each piece is individually hand painted and may contain subtle variations in brushwork, line quality, paint density and motif execution. These characteristics arise through the movement of the artist’s hand and form part of the individuality of the object. They should not be considered defects.

Visual Representation

Certain images may be digitally rendered to illustrate styling, context, scale or garment presentation. While every effort is made to faithfully represent the artwork, construction and character of the object, minor differences in colour, texture, drape or appearance may exist between rendered imagery and the physical product.

Clients seeking further examination of the object may request additional photographs of the garment and its handcrafted details.
