Sohrai - Aikya | 100% Linen | Limited Edition
The Story
Aikya, meaning oneness, takes form through an unlikely gathering of life. A peacock and peahen, a monkey and turtle appear among birds and vegetation — creatures of different habitats brought into the same painted world.
The composition unfolds vertically across the right front panel, moving through branches, leaves and flowering growth before meeting the painted border below. On the chest pocket, bird and vegetation appear again at a smaller scale, extending the composition beyond a single field.
Aikya lies in this coexistence. No one creature is made the centre of the landscape; animal, bird and plant share it. The idea resonates with Sohrai’s pictorial tradition in Jharkhand, where representations of the natural and agrarian worlds have long occupied the walls of homes.
Translated onto linen, the composition retains the individual hand behind its making — irregularities of contour, proportion and brush movement are left visible rather than standardised.
