Marketed By The House Of Rule Zero

Emerging from the royal town of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, these hand-embroidered textiles embody centuries of heritage, devotion, and artistry, nurtured in the royal courts of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Chamba Rumal is renowned for its exquisite double-sided embroidery, worked in untwisted silk threads so that each motif mirrors itself in perfect harmony on both sides. Within its delicate stitches live timeless narratives of mythology, folklore, and cosmic harmony. Once exchanged as intimate tokens of love and legacy, the Chamba Rumal today endures as an emblem of India’s cultural grandeur. The art form was certified with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2007.

Mrs. Indu Sharma

A leading practitioner of Chamba Rumal embroidery since 2001, Indu Sharma is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing this centuries-old tradition. Her artistry reimagines Chamba’s intricate motifs and narratives, while she nurtures a new generation of embroiderers to uphold its timeless legacy. Honored with the State Award (2015), Kala Nidhi Award (2020), and the Women Achiever Award (2023), she stands as both an artist and custodian of this living heritage.

Mr. Prikshit Sharma

A master of Chamba miniature painting with over 25 years of experience, Prikshit Sharma revives the timeless collaboration between miniaturist and embroiderer. His flawless linework and use of traditional techniques infuse each creation with precision, rarity, and heritage—transforming fabric into a canvas of enduring luxury.

The embroidery of Chamba is distinguished by a double satin stitch, worked forward and backward alternately on both sides of the cloth. This technique, known as dorukha, ensures that the embroidered field appears equally effective and uniform on both faces of the fabric. Because the satin stitch looks similar on both sides, wrinkles can form; to prevent puckering, the fabric is held tightly in an embroidery hoop. Though it may appear simple, this stitch is quite challenging to execute.

At the House of Rule Zero, the Chamba Rumal is reimagined as a keepsake—a piece of India’s heart, now within reach for every Indian to cherish. Each stitch intertwines nature, myth, and tradition, telling a story of timeless artistry. To hold it is to embrace a legacy, carrying the beauty, craft, and soul of Chamba embroidery into your home. Beyond preserving heritage, this endevour supports local artisans and fosters community building, ensuring that the skills, livelihoods, and creative traditions of these craftspeople continue to thrive for generations to come.
