A living deity on land, the cow is central to rural life and deeply revered as a symbol of religion and nature. This hand-embroidered Sujani handkerchief features the sacred cow motif, representing well-being, auspiciousness, and divine blessings. More than an art piece, it carries a sense of protection, abundance, and good wishes—making it a meaningful keepsake of cultural heritage.

Sujani is an embroidered textile tradition associated with the Mithila region of present-day Bihar. Historically created through layers of cloth joined with running stitches, the practice developed as a form of narrative and decorative needlework. Human figures, animals, plants, daily life and social observations frequently appear within its visual language.

The embroidered surface is characterised by dense stitch work that simultaneously creates structure, texture and imagery, allowing stories and observations to emerge through thread. Distinguished by its narrative quality and layered compositions, Sujani often transforms lived experience, memory and observation into richly embroidered surfaces.
